Dr. Hassan Vakil honored by Riddle HealthCare Foundation

On Monday, May 22, 2017, The Riddle HealthCare Foundation honored the leadership and contributions of Hassan C. Vakil, MD to Riddle Hospital and formally dedicated the Hassan C. Vakil, MD Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center, located on Riddle's campus in Health Center 4.

More than 150 colleagues, patients, friends and family members of Dr. Vakil gathered to participate in the dedication. Steve Derby, former executive director of The Riddle HealthCare Foundation served as the master of ceremonies, noting that "we gather to honor Dr. Vakil for his many contributions of time, talent and treasure to Riddle Hospital over his 40+ year tenure—and more specifically today in recognition of his generous support for the important work of the Wound Healing Center."

Other speakers included Jack Lynch, president and CEO of Main Line Health; Gary Perecko, president of Riddle Hospital; David Thomas, DO, PhD, president of the Riddle Hospital medical staff and Dr. Vakil himself.

"Dr. Hassan Vakil has served Riddle Hospital and this community, in many ways," said Gary Perecko, "chairing numerous committees; serving on the board of The Riddle HealthCare Foundation since 2005; chairing the division of surgery for 30 years; and currently serving as a member-at-large of Riddle's Medical Staff Operating Committee. The impact Dr. Vakil has had on Riddle Hospital, the patients served over the years, the staff, our colleagues and the communities in which they live and work has been profound, beyond remarkable and certainly, immeasurable."

Dr. David Thomas took the time to recognize and thank the members of Dr. Vakil's family, particularly his wife Virgie, a successful attorney in Media, for their support and sacrifice over the years, allowing him to serve the community with great dedication.

Main Line Health president and CEO Jack Lynch praised Dr. Vakil for his dedication to the wound healing center. "Wound care patients require a time-intensive treatment process, and as a result, primary care physicians do not always have the time, nor expertise, to dedicate to their needs. That's why it is so important to have a service like the Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center and our well-respected physician champions, like Dr. Vakil, to bring a critical service like this to Riddle Hospital. He saw the benefit to the community and advocated the need for our patients."

At the conclusion of the remarks, guests were invited for refreshments and to tour the Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center.
