Efforts are underway to raise $1 million to invest in our Surgical and Urology services on two fronts:

  • The acquisition of a da Vinci® Robotic Teaching Console to train surgical residents on the robotic surgical system which Urologists and surgeons of other disciplines use daily at BMH.
  • The purchase of Aquablation® technology to offer the latest option for the treatment of benign enlarged prostate (BPH).

Why are these two pieces of technology important?

With the recent addition of our own Urologic Surgery Residency at BMH, and general surgery residents continuously rotating through BMH from Jefferson and Lankenau Medical Center, we are committed to ensuring the next generation of surgeons have access to and are trained on our advanced da Vinci® robotic surgical systems. The addition of a teaching console enables both mentor and student to participate in robotic surgery in a safely moderated way.

A robot-assisted, water-jet-powered surgery for enlarged prostates, Aquablation® would be a new capability for BMH, offering an alternative treatment option for patients dealing with negative effects of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia – a condition affecting as much as 50% of men age 50+.

Given the challenges faced in the current healthcare financial climate, these investments are 100% contingent on community support to provide the necessary funding.
