Dear Applicant,

Thank you so much for your interest in our residency program! Lankenau Medical Center is an academic medical center with incredible pathology, patient diversity, and faculty. What makes our program exceptional is the warm, personalized environment that you get to learn and practice in. We have outstanding surgical, subspecialty, and critical care services and serve as a referral center for many hospitals in the local area. We care for all our complex and interesting cases here and transfers to other hospitals are exceptionally rare.

Our location affords us the opportunity to care for a very diverse patient population as we are located at the intersection of three counties in the state of Pennsylvania. Just over half of our patients come from West Philadelphia while the other half come from surrounding suburbs as well as from around the world. This offers our residents exposure to a wide array of diseases and the experience of navigating the healthcare system for patients of wealth, poverty, and everything in between. It is exceptionally important that we have a diverse residency program to match the patient population that we serve. I encourage to learn about our Diversity, Respect, Equity and Inclusion (DREI) journey at Main Line Health.

We have an amazing group of academic faculty who are here because they love to take care of patients and teach residents. At Lankenau Medical Center, you form incredibly close relationships with your core and subspecialty faculty, a key part of the personalized experience you have with us. This close bond with your faculty offers you a lot of exposure to teaching, research opportunities, and career mentorship.

Our ancillary services and nursing staff are exceptional — something that facilitates great patient care. Our facilities are incredible, including a new emergency department and our recently built Heart Pavilion. Lankenau Medical Center has plans to continue expansion in the coming years including building new patient care areas across the street at the St. Charles Borromeo Seminary property which Main Line Health acquired recently. The Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR) on campus allows our residents to be involved with world-class cardiovascular, oncology, immunology, and public health research.

The incredible academics and clinical experiences in our program have contributed to our exceptional American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) board pass rate and outstanding fellowship match rate. Recent graduates that have pursued subspecialty fellowships have matched at Lankenau Medical Center, Mayo Clinic Rochester, Mayo Clinic Arizona, Stanford University Hospital, Baylor University Hospital, Houston Methodist Hospital, the University of Iowa Hospital, University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Jefferson University Hospital, Temple University Hospital, and the University of Nebraska — to name just a few.

Our transition to an X+Y scheduling model is something we are incredibly excited about and provides an outstanding balance of education, primary care, and exposure to ambulatory subspecialties. The past three academic years we have had more graduates pursue careers in primary care than the prior ten years combined, something that speaks to the outstanding experience residents have in our ambulatory practice. We also recently launched our Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum supported by multiple Butterfly devices available for our inpatient services and new simulation equipment soon to arrive.

Lankenau Medical Center is such a special place to train. The best part about this program is the family environment that you get to work and learn in. There is a wonderful nurturing and supportive culture that exists here within our program leadership, program coordinators, faculty, and most importantly our residency program. We strive to support and care for you academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Graduates of our program, both preliminary and categorical, leave our program ready to provide safe, high quality, evidenced-based care to their patients.

We strongly encourage you to apply to our residency program, we would be delighted to meet you!

Best wishes,

Jonathan Doroshow, MD FACP
