Residency positions

Two candidates are selected each year for the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Paoli Hospital. The program begins annually on July 1st.

Residency eligibility

Qualifications for participation in the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program are based on the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) criteria.

  • All candidates for the PGY-1 residency program at Paoli Hospital will participate in the ASHP Residency Matching Program
  • Must have completed a program in pharmacy leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a pharmacy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
  • Must be eligible for Pennsylvania State licensure, with all examinations for Pennsylvania State licensure successfully completed by September 30th of the residency year

Application deadline

Your application and supporting documentation must be received by the second Friday in January of the year you wish to begin the program.

The following materials must be submitted by the first Friday in January:

  • Letter of intent, including a statement of professional goals and reasons for pursuing a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Preference to applicants with hospital pharmacy experience
  • Official College transcript(s)
  • Three letters of recommendation

Candidate qualifications

All candidates must:

  • Be highly motivated
  • Strong desire to work as part of a collaborative team of health care professionals
  • Have hospital pharmacy work experience
  • Must have completed a program in pharmacy leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a pharmacy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
  • Be of good moral character
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a citizen of the United States or have a Green Card
  • Must be eligible for Pennsylvania State licensure, with all examinations for Pennsylvania State licensure successfully completed by September 30th of the residency year

Personal interview

  • Completed application packets will be reviewed by members of the Residency Advisory Committee (RAC) to determine candidates that most closely match the Paoli Hospital program goals and opportunities
  • Selected candidates will be invited to an onsite interview with members of the RAC only after the candidate’s application file is complete
  • Following the interview process, residency candidates will be ranked based upon the collaborative input from the RAC with regard the interviews and qualifications of the candidate
  • A rank list will be submitted to the Resident Matching Program

Acknowledgement of the residency match

Residents who match with the Paoli Hospital Residency program will be notified by mail within 14 days from the match with an acceptance letter acknowledging the match and the general terms and conditions of the residency. The resident then must acknowledge in writing the acceptance of the match and agreement to fulfill the duties of the residency for the upcoming residency year.

Pharmacy licensure verification

The resident will provide the department a copy of the licensure certificate to remain on file during the resident’s year at Paoli Hospital. Failure to attain licensure by September 30th of the residency year will result in termination of employment.
