What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy―also referred to as talk therapy―is a general term used to describe the process of treating psychological disorders and mental distress.
Our trained experts apply a variety of evidence-based techniques, and establish targeted treatment goals, to help patients find relief from distress, identify solutions to alleviate specific issues and modify behaviors to achieve better outcomes.
One of the most common techniques our therapists and psychologists use is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT helps individuals to identify and change thinking and behavior patterns that are harmful or ineffective.
Patients participating in outpatient psychotherapy typically attend one session per week, with the total number of visits falling between 12 to 20 sessions, and sometimes as many as 30. Each session runs 40- to 50-minutes in length.
It's important to note that psychotherapists are not licensed to prescribe medication.
