Building a diverse pipeline of emerging leaders
The Summer Enrichment Program at Main Line Health is a 10-week paid internship that connects diverse students pursuing advanced health-related degrees with experienced administrators and other health care professionals who serve as preceptors and mentors.
Offered by the American Hospital Association's Institute for Diversity and Health Equity, the Summer Enrichment Program is designed to expand health care leadership opportunities for ethnically, culturally and racially diverse individuals. Interns who have completed the Summer Enrichment Program at hospitals and health systems across the country have gone on to lead successful careers, becoming leaders and executives at health care organizations throughout the country.
Since 2005, more than 35 interns have participated in the Summer Enrichment Program at Main Line Health. The System welcomes four to five interns each summer—June through August—who work directly with Main Line Health's senior leadership team, including CEO and President Jack J. Lynch III.
Through the Summer Enrichment Program at Main Line Health, interns are given an unmatched opportunity where they can:
- Rotate through different departments within the organization
- Attend operational and business meetings
- Participate in continuing education classes and professional development forums
- Lead and support projects that enhance and support Main Line Health
- Present ideas and findings to Main Line Health senior executives and other health care leaders
Main Line Health's Summer Enrichment Program interns' success rate after the internship is impressive. One-fourth of the interns have been hired by Main Line Health at the end of their graduate studies, while the other three-fourths were hired full-time at a different organization.
